Wet Hair Dos and Don’ts

Do you go to sleep with a towel over your wet hair often? We’re here to tell you – PLEASE DON’T DO THAT! Read on to know what happens when you do it!

When it comes to hair, it is the weakest when it is wet. So, combing wet hair or sleeping with wet hair can result in a lot of hair breakage. Here are a few Dos and Don’ts for wet hair to ensure that your hair remains moisturized and for hair fall control.

A] Wet Hair Don'ts

Here are a few practices you should steer clear off to keep your hair happy and healthy.

1. Combing wet hair – huge no-no!

When you wash your hair, the pores on the hair and scalp are open making your hair very sensitive. Never ever brush wet hair! Combing wet hair makes them brittle and so, they snap when tied later. This leads to greater hair breakage and an increase in hair fall.

2. Don’t go to bed with wet hair!

When you go to bed with wet hair, hair that is already fragile gets tangled and you wake up with knots and frizzy hair. We recommend you wait for your hair to dry naturally, but if you can’t, it is better to use a blow dryer on a normal air or cool air function and tie your hair into a loose braid or bun before retiring for the night.

3. Don’t wrap it in a towel!

Almost every other girl is guilty of this, and we don’t blame you! A towel is made of fibers that help dry your body. These fibers can be very harsh on wet hair and can cause hair breakage. In order to dry your hair without ridding it of the conditioning you just provided while shampooing, use any cotton t-shirt you have at hand, or a microfiber towel.

4. Don’t tie wet hair!

It’s been said many times before, but here goes again – combing wet hair and tying them while still wet can result in breakage and hair fall. Hair strands are especially sensitive when wet and pulling them into a bun or ponytail while still wet can cause tension breakage.

5. Don’t heat style!

Heat styling your hair while still wet is like giving hair fall an open invitation. Heat styling should be avoided even when your hair is dry and should definitely be steered clear off while your hair is still wet. Styling wet hair can make your hair brittle and lackluster. We recommend you avoid blow-drying your hair at high temperatures too.

The sizzle that you hear while ironing or curling wet hair is the flat iron stripping away all the moisture from your hair and literally frying your hair alive. Remember to never use hairspray on wet hair. Never. The only thing you might achieve by spraying hairspray on wet hair is crunchy, flaky, brittle strands.

If you heat style or spray hairspray on wet hair, you might have to search for hair breakage treatment soon. If you are absolutely required to style your hair, ensure you use a heat protectant like Pantene Open Hair Miracle just before styling.

B] Wet Hair Dos

Here are some things that will help you keep your hair healthy and shiny after you wash them!

1. Wait till your hair dries. Just, trust us on this!

It is important to wait till your hair is almost dry before your start brushing it, detangling it or putting on other products. Styling wet hair can ruin the quality and shine of your locks. If there’s water still dripping from your hair, your products will most likely drip away with the excess water too. It is imperative to wait until your hair is just damp and there is no more water dripping out.

2. Apply serum & leave-in conditioner

Serums and leave-in conditioners are as important as your shampoo and conditioner, if not more. They give your hair a healthy shine and help to prevent breakage when you brush and detangle them. Pantene Open Hair Miracle is one solution that can act as the perfect serum to give you gorgeous open hair every day!

3. Use a wide toothed comb

Using a narrow-toothed comb to remove knots can result in excess hair fall. A wide-toothed comb or detangler brush is a necessity for removing knots from your hair. Here are some other tips to remember while combing or detangling your hair –

• Always start detangling from the ends and move your way up. This will minimize breakage and produce less pulling on your tresses. Your hair will be less dry and frizzy as a result of this.
• Divide your hair into sections instead of trying to tackle it all at once.
• Apply a detangling serum to help your comb slide easily.

Now that you know the dos and don’ts of wet hair, you can make sure to follow these guidelines to prevent breakage and ensure happy, heathy hair!
